The transformation that I have seen in the young women between the time they arrive at Malta House scared and alone and move into their own apartment, is nothing short of magical. How blessed we are to be able to help them and their babies achieve their dreams. I believe that any young woman who has chosen life for her unborn child should be given every opportunity to live a life full of hope and love - which is what Malta House offers young women who have nowhere to turn. While at Malta House these young moms learn parenting and independent living skills, pursue employment or a certification/degree, and begin to heal and understand that they are worthy of love. When the moms and babies leave the residential program, Malta House continues to love and support them on their life journey -- Once a Malta House mom and baby, always a Malta House mom and baby!” Kim Petrone, Chairman Malta House Board of Directors Creating a Healthy Community Malta House’s mission is to end homelessness among pregnant women by providing a nurturing home environment, support services, and independent living skills to pregnant and parenting mothers of all faiths and their children. The Need Malta House, Inc. opened its doors in 1998 with the goal of addressing the on-going needs of single, homeless pregnant and parenting women and their children. The founders of Malta House recognized that there were far too many single mothers in our community who have never lived in a stable, safe and nurturing home. Malta House has served over 700 homeless mothers and babies in the last 22 years. Malta House is the only maternity group home for pregnant women over 18 in Connecticut. In Service Malta House provides safe housing for up to 20 individuals; ten pregnant mothers and their ten infants in our Residential Program. Malta House serves the most at-risk female populations - pregnant and new mothers - and supports a mother through the critical first years of her child's life. We accept women of all faiths, ethnicities and backgrounds. The majorities of our residents are from Fairfield County, and include Norwalk, Stamford, Bridgeport, Greenwich, Danbury, New Haven and Seymour. Malta House always gives priority to pregnant women, no matter geographic location. Help and Hope Our core programs are: Residential Program, Partnering Success Program, and Outreach Program. We are here to offer support, guidance, resources, and love, but the most important thing we provide is hope. Hope keeps their spirit alive and makes all things possible. Our Outreach Program allows us to assist underserved families living in our community with diapers and excess donations (diapers, formula, clothing, furniture, and more). Residential Program: We provide safe housing for up to 20 individuals; ten pregnant mothers and their ten infants. The goal is to empower each mother to reach her fullest potential by becoming independent providers and active community members, allowing her to provide a better life for her family. Partnering Success Program: As our mothers transition from the Residential Program to independent life, our Partnering Success Program provides ongoing follow-up assistance such as counseling, childcare, housing subsidies, and transportation. Our Case Managers continue to provide well visits to our graduates. Sometimes providing practical solutions to challenges they are facing; they often act as an advocate with landlords or employers and support them as they navigate independent single motherhood. Community Outreach Program: "Baby Pantry" Malta House receives many generous donations of baby equipment, clothing, diapers, and food. We have become known as a resource for these necessities in the Greater Norwalk area, serving an average of 100 families each month to provide basic personal and household needs. We feel fortunate that we can share our gifts with former residents and other mothers in need who are living in our community. A Bright Future Malta House is moving into a larger building at 139 West Rocks Road in Norwalk in January 2021! The growth into our newly renovated home will increase our capacity to serve mothers and babies by 50%. In addition, we will be able to offer more classes and services to single mothers outside of our residential program. Partnership We are grateful to the Norwalk Chamber of Commerce and the local business community for supporting the mothers and babies of Malta House. In this unprecedented and challenging time, your help reminds our mothers that they are not alone, that there is hope for a brighter future, and that their children will be born to a world of safety and love. On behalf of our board of directors, staff, and all the mothers and babies of Malta House, thank you for your commitment, your partnership and all the ways you show you care.
