Chocolate is always popular as a gift for Valentine’s Day, Christmas, birthdays, or just to eat for sheer pleasure (some of us can’t get enough of it!). When it comes to tasty chocolate, nothing compares to homemade or artisanal chocolates. Chocolate Works of Darien offers all kinds of chocolates, from tried and true truffles to hand-made chocolate-covered pretzels. Chocolate Works, which opened four years ago, is run by owners Meredith Scheine and her husband, Greg. Her husband had recently sold a business and was looking for another venture when this opportunity came up, says Scheine. Chocolate Works is a franchise, but Scheine stresses that the Darien store is run like a mom and pop shop. They make many of their own products and have a team of experienced chocolatiers on staff (one of whom, Nikki-Lynn Vincoli, had a 15-year track record with a store in Stamford). Chocolate Works has three main offerings: chocolates and candies for sale over the counter, custom chocolate items for individuals or businesses, and an event space for parties, workshops and corporate events. You Local Candy Store First and foremost, Chocolate Works in Darien is a local candy store. “We have so many great chocolate items that we make. Among our most popular are chocolate-covered pretzels, oreos and graham crackers of all kinds and pecan turtles. A lovely concoction we call peanut butter oreo bomb is one of our newest, most popular items,” says Scheine. “For those looking for alternative sweets, we offer a wall of loose candy and the famous Gifford’s ice cream from Maine.” Scheine explains that the store is also great fun for people to visit. “When you come inside the store, you can see us making our homemade chocolates, which is fascinating to watch. We also have a great event space that seats up to 40 people where there’s a conveyor belt carrying chocolates (think “I Love Lucy”) and a chocolate fountain. You can also make and decorate your own chocolate masterpiece using our molds, which people love.” Chocolate Works For Business For businesses, Chocolate Works can create whatever custom item you can think of for gifts or promotional items. They can put together something as simple as a holiday basket, or more complicated orders such as logos made with chocolate and edible sugar paper in any design for giveaways at trade shows, sales calls or to put in gift boxes. “We work with businesses to come up with a design or gift to fit within their price point, and the results are always impressive for their clients say our customers,” says Scheine. In addition to corporate gifts, customized items for personal use are ordered regularly, says Scheine. “We have made all kinds of creative products, from the ordinary such as gift boxes, to the extraordinary like chocolate centerpieces, wedding place cards with calligraphy, or custom party favors.” Chocolate Works is located at 25 Old Kings Highway North in Darien. Stop by for your holiday candy, gifts, or stocking stuffers. For custom or corporate orders call (203) 202-7067 or visit, chocolateworks.com/darien-ct for more information.
