Insightful approaches to clinical research! Our healthcare system must embrace ASC / OBL models because the Hospital systems cannot sustain our future health needs. Despite any negativity thrown at OBLs they are here to stay AND these non hospital models are going bring additional speed, accessibility, and efficiency to clinical research. Well done: OEIS Society Robert Beasley Kenneth Ouriel NAMSA Paul Gagne Enrico Ascher Corie Diaz

  • Congratulations to Dr. Dan Gorin of The Vascular Care Group’s Hyannis office and the team at Cape Cod Healthcare for recently performing their 100th TCAR procedure. TCAR is a hybrid procedure that is performed through a small incision in the neck. TCAR is unique in that blood flow is temporarily reversed during the procedure so that any bits of plaque that may break off are diverted away from the brain. Surgeons filter the patient’s blood before returning through a vein in the groin, and a stent is implanted to the carotid artery to stabilize plaque and help prevent future strokes. Patients who undergo the TCAR procedure recover quickly and almost always go home the next day to return to full and productive lives with less pain and a reduced risk of future strokes. • 𝐎𝐧𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐟𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐮𝐬 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐚 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐤𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐥𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐦𝐞. Did you know…90% of strokes could be prevented by acting on a handful of manageable risk factors including high blood pressure, atrial fibrillation (irregular heartbeat), smoking, diet, and exercise. Stroke is the fifth leading cause of death in the US and although the elderly are more commonly affected, it can occur to anyone at any age. Understanding the risk factors and recognizing the symptoms may help in preventing a stroke. Additionally, receiving early diagnosis and treatment increases the chances for complete recovery.
